07/30/07 Big Lake Aalska
On Monday after work we decided to head out to Big Lake in the Crystal Dawn to see if we had fixed the fuel issue. THe good news is no more fuel issue.
My wife, son and I hooked up the boat, grabbed the dogs, Chevy, our black lab and Jade, our white boxer. Unfortunately we forgot the camera.
The water was bathtub calm, overcast skies, no wind. We launched about 7:30 pm. We cruised around the lake for about an hour and a half. Everything checked out good. Average fuel economy was 5 MPG at 27 MPH. Top speed attained before the rev limiter kicked is was 31. Speed at 6000 RPM was 30 MPH with fuel economy of 3.9 mpg as measured by the fuel flow meter.
It was a great first outing with the wife and the dogs. Long enough to get a feel for the boat. Nice and smooth for a high comfort level and confidence that it really will float. It allowed the dogs to get used to the layout and find their spot. Jade wants to sit at my wifes feet and get a nice petting. Chevy wants on the deck with his paws on the gunwale so he can see where we are going. I would swear that he was smiling the entire time. He got in a swim before the launch and after the load.
As we were leaving the dock after launching, Justin stepped on the gunwale to walk to the bow to secure the dock lines. Chevy thought he stepped off the boat and wasn't on the boat anymore so he took a flying leap and landed on the dock, about 4' from the boat. He then saw Justin on the boat so he ran down the dock to the ramp and started swimming toward the boat. When he saw that we were coming back for him he swam back to the ramp, and ran to the end of the dock and then sat until we got back. He jumped back on board and off we went. I have a feeling Chevy will be the story line behind many of these logs. That dog loves the water and loves to be on boats, any boat. He has fished out of the inflatable, watch the wakeboarders on the runabout and now rode in the Jumbo.
