Tolman Skiff - Dodson Jumbo: 3/3 - 3/13 Build Progress Notes

By Kenneth Dodson - Posted on 13 March 2006

I have been remiss in updates and I will try and catch up. Time has kind of blended together so if I repeat steps I just forgot and didn't actually do them twice. Let's see, over the last 10 days I have:
I epoxied the cuddy sides and sanded a bit on the inside to shelf corner.

Epoxied the rear bulkhead in place.

I taped all the bulkheads and stringer filler for the middle and rear bulkheads.
I installed the drop sole in the cuddy cabin.

I installed the bunk faces in the cuddy.
I dry fit the bunk tops. I laid down to see how the fit and was tempted to take a little nap. I am 5'10" 187 lbs and I had room galore. I had at least 6" at my head and 6" at my feet. It felt quite roomy.

I cut out the windshiled frames and put a coat of epoxy on one side.
I coated the upper and lower sides with 2 coats of epoxy on the inside. I glassed the upper sides with 2 coats of epoxy. I will glass the rear lower sides next.
I laid out lines for the ply stringers in the main cabin and laid out the lines for a drop sole in the main cabin outside of the stringers so I can, maybe, stand while driving or the passenger can stand while watching. I will have a 1/2 ply sole where the top of the sole is at the same height as the chine shelf. It will be approx 2 1/2" below stringer height. I ran it back about 16" from the middle bulkhead.
